We had another fantastic year for fund raising.  The 2nd Annual Silent Auction/Wine Tasting was held at Phantom Canyon downtown on August 16, 2007. We welcomed at total of 36 people this year. This was a bit smaller turn out compared to last year, but we managed to raise
more money!

The total was $1,680.00. We are planning to have the 3rd Annual Silent Auction/Wine Tasting in August 2008 since this theme has brought great success and is very enjoyable. Looking forward to another great year!

Thank you to all that were able to attend and provide baskets, without you it wouldn't be possible.

NAWIC Founders Scholarship Foundation

At the 1963 Annual Meeting/Convention held in Atlanta, GA, the membership created, in honor of its founders, the NAWIC Founders Scholarship Foundation (NFSF) Fund. This foundation fund was created through voluntary contributions by NAWIC members, as well as others interested in its objective. The foundation fund was self-sustaining within seven years of the date of its inception.

Scholarships were awarded through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation until the program was revised in 1984.  The revised scholarship program began to provide scholarship awards to full-time students who were enrolled in construction studies.

The NFSF is a self-supporting scholarship program. It was established to assist in providing the construction industry with trained employees through higher education.

Candidates must apply directly to the NFSF. Candidates are considered based on their interest in construction, grades, extracurricular activities, employment experience and financial need. The semi-finalists are subject to a personal interview by a representative of the Foundation.

-    Candidates must be currently enrolled and have at least one year remaining in a construction related degree program.

      OR

-    Candidates must be enrolling in a Bureau of Apprenticeship (BAT) or state-approved trade or craft training school, studying a craft trade directly related to the construction industry.

Our particular division, NAWIC Chapter 356 of Colorado Springs, CO, views this program as an outstanding opportunity and is looking forward to awarding this scholarship to a southern Colorado student.

For further information and to download an application, go to the NAWIC website at www.nawic.org under "Education Information". The Association is proud of its contributions made to the construction industry through NFSF and continues to work toward the betterment of the industry.
